Double-heading 4-8-4 American Flyer Steam Locomotives

This is my first attempt at double-heading American Flyer Steam Locomotives. It was a bigger undertaking than I thought it would be. I ended up using brass flat stock to make the pull bar and arm assembly with American Flyer knuckle couplers. This is a short video I took of the 4-8-4’s. Will do a longer video with two hundred cars when I get that many!

The second engine I replace the “Lionel/Flyer” smoke unit with the AF smoke unit. You can see a big difference at slower speeds.

It looks like those two locos lashed together are longer then the rest of the train. Looks good!

how much did you slice the piot up on the 2nd engine to get the proper swing radius?

This is a close up of the front pilot as to how much work went into removing material to get the right amount of swing on the arm assembly. This was a trial and error situation at first, just to get things to work right. Take things slow and pay attention to what your removing.
