Double mainline switching question

On part of my layout I will be running a double mainline. On two sections of the main line I have installed a pair of turnouts on each side of the layout. I will at times be switching one train from one mainline to the other. But, I also want to run trains on both mainlines at the same time. I am operating in DC and will have two power packs for the mainline. . My question is how do I install blocks so I can run two trains on both mainlines at the same time. I know I have to isolate the turnouts in some way so both mainlines can operate at the same time. How do I do this. My turnouts are manually controlled with Bullfrog machines. This is HO scale.

“My question is how do I install blocks so I can run two trains on both mainlines at the same time”

Blocks are made (installed) by cutting a gap in the rails at each end of the block. The block then needs to be wired to a power pack or switch that controls the power to it.

If you are asking “where” to gap the tracks to make your double mainline possible, you will have to post a drawing of your plan so we can see it.

To seperate your two loops you want to insulate between the two switches at each crossover.

To add additional blocks and have smooth operations I would recommend a three position switch, with center off. I use Atlas Selectors #215 on my small layout, I have picked them up at train shows for from a dollar or two each. I would divide each loop into four sections to allow a train to cross from loop to loop at each crossover and not change power packs or have part of the train in the other power packs territory. You can add sidings either as part of the section they come off from or insulate them and give them their own switch. Atlas has a good book on wiring using their components.#### Good luck,
