When double stacks of unequal length containers are loaded, what is the reasoning for usually placing the longer container on top ?
So they don’t have to buy new well cars to fit the longer containers.
Containers must rest on their four hard points at each corner of the box. The boxes are 20, 40, 48, and 53 feet. The 48’s and 53’s have four additional hard points allowing them to stack above two 20, or a single 48 or 53 foot container. However you cannot stack two 20s above the longer containers. A center frame does not exist on the 40 , 48 or 53 to support two 20’s above.

I always wondered why that was but never seem to question it. THANKS.
