Anyone…[%-)] anyone…[:-^]
Double track was added between Beaumont and Fingal about two years ago, then progress stopped until a few months ago. Fingal is about 4 miles east of Cabazon.
Work is currently in progress to double track between Fingal and Thousand Palms, a distance of another 15 miles or so. Roadbed is finished between Fingal and West Palm Springs, ready for track laying.
I would suspect that within the next couple of years there will be double track from West Colton to Mecca, just south of Indio on the Sunset Route.
Wisser,
The UP has a pretty aggressive capital spending plan that will add double track to the Sunset each year for the foreseeable future. This is largely bolstered by the growth in intermodal on this route. Intermodal (TOFF &COFC) Trains in the lanes below run this route:
Laredo to LA / Stockton / Portland / Seattle
San Antonio to same
Dallas to same
Memphis to same
Chicago to LA (some trains) Others go via Salt Lake
KC to LA
murrita and dblstack,
thanks, thats what I wanted to know.
I believe they intend on going all the way to El Paso. Only if they could do that kind of work here on the Golden State Route.

Is there anykind of a map showing what is done so far and the future plans for this trackage? Has Trains mag shown it by chance?
