Greetings and Salutations;
I am new to the board, well almost as I have been reading this forum for quite a while and just now got up the guts to post.
This last weekend I was driving around trying to catch some railroad action here in the DFW metro area. I came accross a aggregate train (BNSF) on the old Rock Island sub between Fort Worth and Dallas. This is also the current Trinity Rail Express line. I noticed that they were doing construction as the train had a flagman for the crossing I was at. I checked the sign and it stated that this was part of a double track project.
To make a long story short I followed the train to Centerpoint station (TRE) just south of the DFW airport. This is also where the old I-GN line connected. What I am asking is does anyone know where I can find more information on this connection. I know that some of the old line is used by UP to service the northernmost part of the Great Southwest Industrial district. However, the abandoned ROW still exists as it heads north to the Trinity River. The floodway bridge is still mostly there, although it has fallen down. The actual bridge over the Trinity is still there, according to Google Earth. I am very interested in finding out more info on this section as well as the old Rock Island line that ran through the area. I have searched the internet and haven’t found much.
Also I have done some research on the old Village creek train wreck where an old 10 wheeler is rumored to still be buried. I will post that at a later date as I finish formating it for posting.
Thanks.
