Downeaster sets ridership record

“Further”?

“Further”?

The Highest Green! Now if the folks further Down East would get their act together so there will be a proper servicing facility in Brunswick or Rockland …

Ridership record? And Mitt Romney promises to abolish Amtrak if he’s elected president. Go figure.

“Further”?, indeed! Downeast is relative. In local terms, even the extended Downeaster won’t reach downeast Maine, which refers to the coast from about Bar Harbor to the Canadian border. “Upwester” might be a more appropriate name for the train!

Well done Downeaster! I understand that people up there like to take things slow. Nothing wrong with that. But now is the time to strike while the iron is hot and speed things up to expand the service. This is THE LITTLE TRAIN THAT DID!

And the tide just keeps on turnin’. Abolish Amtrak? Oh, yes, there are those folks who’d just love to keep you on the asphalt, but people are rediecovering a better way.

Messers Karlson and Clopton please take note. In support of Mr. Hays’ attempt to point out the incorrect grammatical use of the word “further” in the source article, and the perpetuation of same in your responses, I picked this ‘lesson’ off the Internet, and submit it FYI…

“Further” Versus “Farther”

The quick and dirty tip is to use “farther” for physical distance and “further” for metaphorical, or figurative, distance. It’s easy to remember because “farther” has the word “far” in it, and“far” obviously relates to physical distance.

Now if the rest of the country would get on track like the Downeaster, Amtrak would be quite profitable. Nothing is impossible. It is a shame that it took 5 years of fighting with that cheap a** PanAm ex guilford to bring the Downeaster to Maine. I hope NS takes over PanAm one day, the management of PanAm (owner) is one cheap lousy CEO.

Yes, William. Brunswick and Rockland are the better part of a day’s sailing further down east.

Any thing further father? Or anything father further? Sorry, TheMarx Brothers made me say it! You can bet your life on that!
