Good to know about! In fact, having them on CD-ROM will be a handy way to preserve the data in the unlikely event your computer has to be reset and you lose the data.
i can’t find the supposed downloadable plans for the small town standard STATION. What gives?
The same but better. I have read this magazine for over 60 years. Yeah, I did start as a kid and I learned to read very quick and photos are same in any language at any age. Now I have moved on to D&RG and RGS in narrow gauge and I’m ready with the digital capabilities of MR.
I really like all your mag articles on building plastic, card stock, etc. I am an old modeller from U-control plane era. The new cements and methods u show really help. I am planing a 5 year layout for grandkids. Have lot to learn.
thanks
Hoi
This is what we where waiting for a triple AAA for comming out whit it . THanks
Just a thought - the CD is on its way out, though it will be around for many years to come as “old technology”. Are you considering downloads as well, for those of us with computers that don’t have a CD-ROM drive?
Hi Paul,
We’ve offered article collection downloads for several years now. Click on Downloadable articles under the How-to tab across the top of the page.

Dana,
How can I get a copy of John Armstrong’s
“Special Handbook Series”. I have No. 7 and would like to get the entire set. Do I need to go after copies out back date MRR, or can I obtain them on line.
Thanks,
Lou La Salle
I’m just waiting for MR to start putting all the back issues on CD’s…then I can get rid of the stacks of magazines around the house…My wife would love you guys for that
While you’re at it, bring back “Model Railroading With John Allen.” My copy had to be rebound and it won’t stand a second re-binding.
Putting things on CD-Rom is great for those that want it; I just keep referencing over 50 years of back issues of Model Railroader. It’s fun to find what you’re looking for; then get caught up with another article in the same magazine.
Hi Lou and Justin,
We are working on putting MR back issues on disc. We’ll have more information in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.
Thanks for reading Model Railroader and visiting ModelRailroader.com.

It was Jack Work’s articles in the late 1950s and early 1960s that got me started in model railroading. My first issue of MR was in 1966, and my hard earned allowance cash was well spent on back issues of Jack Work’s articles. One concern though: I have the Trains back issues DVD, and the scan quality of the early issues could be considerably better. Those scans are very muddy, with low contrast. Also, how will the plans be presented? Will we be able to print them so that we can build models based on paper printouts?
I find that I would buy the paper articiles for $7.95 - $9.95. I think you could load a DVD up with a lot more articles and keep the price reasonable as you have all ready earned profit on these articiles before, if I am wrong please select proof th Blanght
Hi Guys,
This is great idea. My wife keeps asking when I will get rid of all those magazines in the basement. _GET RID OF???
Come on guys! This is great idea BUT $19.95 plus shipping? This hobby can be expense so maybe you could price these a little more reasonable. Thanks.
Too Pricey…
If you look at the prices take the logging article you get all 4 for $19.95 and if you bought them separately they would cost alot more than $19.95 3 of them sell for $14.95 and the other one sells for $8.95 so it sounds like a deal to me and you can always copy them and save them to a jump drive that way no matter what you can always access them. If you have an old laptop
Take an old laptop or pc and have them make a jump out of the hard drive for you. then you have plenty of space for just your Train pictures and videos
Thomas Paulson’s and Lou LaSalle’s comments I’m in agreement with. Bring back some hard copy mags/books for some of this information. How about publishing a special issue for John Armstrong’s articles (including his special handbook series) and make it today’s Model Railroader formatting and quality? After all “It’s what You do!” Don Strack’s comments regarding scan quality is spot on. Model Railroader needs to put the effort into the product to make the files high resolution. Especially since I can purchase what I believe to be excellent quality railroad DVDs for less than $20 now-a-days.
Thanks for the opportunity to opine,
