Downtown Deco in N scale

I’ve had these Downtown Deco N scale hydrocal kits for a while and just decided to give them a go. All three are the Addams Ave. series mostly painted with Tamiya colors and various washes. I bashed some of the signs with spares since one of the sheets was incomplete. At some point these buildings will be a part of a town that is considered ‘the other side of the tracks.’ One thing about the camera, it shows things that I didn’t notice like the sloped roof above Bukowski Liquors. I hope my work inspires others to try new things. Enjoy.

Looking good!

Nice job [bow]

Wow, that is a good looking series of buildings and nicely detailed.

Post photos once you have positioned these structures on your layout.

Thanks for the feedback. I have some other structures I’d like to post in the future. I’d really like to see what other buildings N scalers are creating out there. Let’s see some posts.

Fastball:

I have these kits and have yet to find the nerve to try hydrocal. Thanks for the inspiration. Your kiits look awesome. [bow]

Scott,

I tried some different things on these, too. The Napa Rock sign on the Palace Hotel is a paper sign that I scraped down to almost transparent. I then soaked it in water so it would sit down in between the bricks better. The cigar sign on the rear of the building is a decal that I scraped away to make it look old and abused. Here’s a side shot of B&B Pawn where I tried using a two color paint stencil to get it look a little shaded. It didn’t work out the way I planned but at least I tried. I used a lot of different washes that brought out the detail but the camera didn’t really catch that.
