Wanting to do some art work for my laypout, like the decales for my boxcars, signs for building, ecta, have any one got any experience with one program over another, and which one would you recommend and why ?
Went out to Best Buy, Office Depot, & Office Max, explain to the clerks what I was wanting to do, they would just grab somethinmg saying this will do it.
At between $300.00 and $500.00 I want a better answer than that, so I’m asking you guys which one do you use .
I’ve made a few signs for some buildings and did a little artwork for some homemade decals using Paint Shop program that I got free in a package of Avery labels a few years ago. It’s quite a simple program, but allows one to all kinds of things with text - make it larger, smaller, curved, vertical, etc., which is great for these uses. I see upgraded versions of Paint Shop (versions 9, 10, etc.) at local shops for $50.00 or less. You really don’t need anything fancier for these applications.
I’ve also used it to make posters for our local club’s public shows, cards for family members, passes for my model railroad, etc. It’s a lot more versatile with text than my word processor MS Word.
Here’s my e–pass (electronic pass) I made for my model railroad:

Note the curving railroad name with a shadow, the Shay lightly showing in the background, etc. All with a free program!

Thanks that may do the trick, as I may already have it, The decale I’m trying to do is the name for my railroad that will go on the side of box cars Will have a big S and beside it on half size will be eaboard
outhern but I havn’t figure out how to get the S to stay the Biger size and alow me to write out beside it the half size words.
That should be fairly easy - spell out Seaboard, then select the letter “S” and change the font size to something larger:
