Got the second volume today. It’s in the DVD player and the pop corn is popping, so we’ll see if it’s worth the $24.95. Who’s got the cold Cokes??
Slides the frosted mugs down the chute… here ya go.
Well…I watched the whole thing straight through. The parts that acgilbert advises in another thread are replays of earlier videos were interesting. I do not have this earlier series, so the footage is new to me, as it may be to others. It was nice to see the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad mentioned on the DVD. That’s a wonderful ride.
But, I have to say again I was disappointed in the “workshop” segments. While the segments on laser cut wood kits and kitbashing were informative, the resin casting segment totally left out the crucial part of…“how to make a mold”…jumping right into the process by pouring the resin mix into the mold, already made. So…How do you make a mold? The airbrushing of the track mentioned the need for the user to wear a respirator, but the demonstrator wasn’t wearing one {…so you could hear him!!} He also didn’t even use a shield of any sort to keep the paint overspray from going all over the place…I’m not sure if airbrushing track along a finished scene on your layout is a good idea. Can you actually control the paint that well…and I was taught to paint the track before you ballasted it. Hmmmm…I guess there are different ways of doing things.
I have not viewed the PDF selections; there are three or four included on the DVD. With the current prices of PDF file downloads from the MRR site, these may help you think you are getting something of value for the $24.95 cost. I will have to watch it again to see if I will keep the DVD and give the PDFs a look-see.
I did not get the 2nd one because I did not pay for the first one. If it’s anything like the first DVD well then it’s not worth $24.95 to me. [2c] Sorry.
I got mine and I really enjoy it. I thought that the how to parts though not in depth, are interesting and serve to wet my appitite for the projects that they cover. Watching the segments on the featured layouts also serves as insperation to me for my own.
My son also really enjoys watching it. He is only 3 but he has seen it more that I have.
The other thing that I liked was that this one boots right up in my DVD player. The first one I have to watch on my computer because the DVD player won’t run it. (I’m having a little trouble with this, it doesn’t seem to want to play any new movie that I buy taking 3 or 4 times to load them)
I sent my money in this morning.
