Now that we are in the dog days of Summer, I thought I would post a shot from last fall in Washington State. It’s of a clean SD90Mac leading a mixed freight through some great fall colors. Take a look and let me know if you can feel the cool autumn air on your face?

I didn’t feel the breeze, but did feel a little nervous being that close to a train, especially if it was moving.
But in staying with the breeze theme - I have noticed that even sitting back about 100 yards from the tracks in our watch site, the trains will either provide or cut off any reasonably good breeze as they pass by. (we sit not far from a curve in the tracks.)
Forecast high’s for this coming week in Cardiff range from 67 to 70F…
I tend to agree with Mookie as the picture looks like it was taken perhaps too close to the tracks, although there is the siding between the photog and the main line.
But with the yellow of leaves almost matching perfectly the Armor Yellow of the UP diesel, this is a beautiful photograph, one worthy of display in an art show, just for its visual beauty.
Beautiful shot. The long lens makes it appear closer than it really is. As for cool, I’m not ready for it. I love the long hot summer and am in no hurry for it to go away.
It sure is a beautiful, colorful {for sure}, railroad photo.
I can’t fully appreciate fall colors {I do in this photo}, but in reality…knowing Winter is the next step.
Hot and humid has been the theme here for weeks…But, just an hour ago…we opened the windows, at least for the night and hope to enjoy a less humid evening and overnight. High today: 87, but lower humidity has made it seem much more comfortable.
GRRRRRRRR!!! Forecast in Tallahassee is for 95 to 97 degrees every day this week, w/humidity in the 80% to 90% range. I feel Ed’s pain. Hurry up, late October!
The SD Union had an article a few days ago about this being the coolest July since the 1930’s. I’ve heard stories about the weather in Tallahassee, my dad was finishing up on his PhD at FSU when I was born there -we moved to CA when I was 9 months old.
Here in Chicago we’ve had the longest running sequence of consecutive 80 degree days in the past 140 years so far this year…soooooo, we’re ready for a bit of a cooling down here.
Wasn’t it a few months ago we were complaining about the white stuff and the cold? Anyway, the heat is welcome from my viewpoint. I’m sure the winter precip will return in due time. Wasn’t last year the year of low temps in July?
Without our complaints about the weather which tanslates into significant interest in what the weather is going to be in our towns, the TV and radio weather prognosticators would have nothing to do and that big page of weather in our local newspapers would disappear AND www.weather.com would simply go away…soooo, I guess our complaining and being interested in the weather really does do some good after all.
Travere City, Michigan on 7/29 high of 77 today and 52 tonight. Sleep with a blanket and still watch the girls on the beach during the day. Haven,t seen a train near here since March but I will survive.
