My “new” Dremel flex shaft is quite noisy and vibrates. It was supposed to be new but I wonder. Shall I try to lubricate the center shaft with graphite? The two ends have some sort if grease but the shaft itself seems dry.
Anyone out there have this problem or have a suggestion?
Mine makes a little noise as well. I also have a Sears Craftsman flex shaft for my drill in the garage and it makes a lot more noise then the Dremel one. I think its normal that they are loud.
The noise level on mine does not seem excessive and the vibration from having a spinning tool seems normal. I have never had to lubricate it. If you can, you might want to check another one for comparison - maybe your shop has a demo unit.
Mine has gone belly up. I found that it might be a flex shaft, but it isn’t a flexible shaft. In other words, while it could take a little bending , it would not handle sharper bends such as a u-turn. The shaft would actually pull out of the drive coupler if bent too far. I think this is a major contributer of its demise. It was also a bit noisey at times.
Please go to: www.dremel.com and look up the flex shaft FAQ’s. In there (the last question I believe) is the answer, and yes, Dremel does recommend lubrication after 20-30 hours of initial use with a specific lubricant, and every 10 hours thereafter. There are other instructions included in the answer to that FAQ.
