Drew’s Trackside Adventures: Episode 25 - Quarry tour along the CN main
Another great DTA. Great idea for a mainline industry. Hope that guy did a proper air test when he picked up those cars.
Drew and the MRVP crew:
Great work documenting the action at Lannon Stone! I hope this video and Jenny’s visit to Quad Graphics are the first in a long series of segments about rail-served industries.
You never stop raising the bar - keep it up!
The rocks were ok, but more about trains like engine shop or roundhouse. Show ballast train or maintance of rock on the railroad, what a good road bed looks like and a bad road bed looks like.
Probably the best episode of DTA yet! Excellent!
I really enjoy the Drew’s Trackside Adventure’s photos. But overtime I watch it I see Drew taking great pictures. I think these would look great as my screen saver. Are these pictures available anywhere?
This was extremely well done. It reminds me of some of the features like MR Rides a Doodlebug from the Paul Larson days at MR. But how about a feature on those CN/SSAM rock cars in the hard copy MR?
Very interesting video-great data for a lineside industry and most of the equipment is available in HO.
Drew, I love your stories and your photography is always amazing. I hope you will show many more industries and their relationship with trains and railroading; the insight for model railroaders is very helpful.
Thank you!
Very cool idea. Hope to see similar videos
Great video of a major industry and revenue source for railroads. Again shows how simple the loading process can be with one front end loader and a single or multiple track siding arrangement. Thanks for taking us along Drew.
What an awesome, awesome video! So cool to see a real quarry in action! loved Drew’s Carwash Adventure at the end. Looks like the whole crew was on hand for this filming. Did you use drones for the shots at the beginning?
That was a fantastic video. Modeling this type of industry will be easier knowing some of your tips from it. Thanks. I really liked seeing fast paced freights from Canadian National as well.
Good video, I do believe that I went to school with Mr. Olsen. Still miss the SD45s that used to haul those…
that was an AWESOME episode! Thank you!
Industry Insider, I like the idea. Could you do more of them? I would like to see a series of them.
This was really up close and personal. This is truly a diamond. Drew thank you and the team so much for taking the time to bring us such a in depth tour. Seeing the operations helps in modeling something like this. The information about how many tracks are needed now was good information. The car pick up was awesome.
MR Video Plus keep up the good work, and keep the videos coming.
One question, after the conductor throws the switch back to the mainline does he have to walk the 35 (or more/less) car train to the locomotive?
Arthur
Are those stone cars former iron ore cars? They must be bottom dump?
Greg, you can find some photos from each show here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/drewstrackside/
Arthur, he does walk back to the headend. Those 35 cars are sure better than 135 in this case.
Arthur, looks like they are in CTC territory. Depending on grade crossings behind the train, he may request a back up move from the dispatcher to get to the power. He may even get a ride from someone from the plant or walk. He definitely has to throw the switch and reset the derail after the train pulls out. All aspects of train operation.
