Drew’s Trackside Adventures: Episode 27 - Official Trailer #1
GREAT promo.
I will look forward to the episodes release on a computer near me.
Drew, what is the label and contents of the can sitting next to you at the end? Can’t quite make it out.
Thanks,
Mark,Huge FECRY fan in S. IL.
Nice trailer! I’m looking forward to the full episode!
This series is the reason I purchased MR Video Plus. It provides excellent information, new locations, and different camera view that provide the inspiration for modeling. Arial videos are of specific interest as they provide the view similar to the modeler. So this trailer is making want to see the full episode as soon as possible!!
By the way Drew, what is the reason you are a Denver Broncos fan? Are you from Colorado originally?
Thanks Mark! I’m excited to relive it.
Jonathan, Thank you. That’s an energy drink I found, called HiBall Energy. I thought the name was cool - kind of railroad-related - and it tastes great. Just the boost I needed during a long day of railfanning!
Paul - Thank you. You’re right on - these aerial views are going to be great inspiration!
Randy - I’m from Wisconsin originally but when I was 8-years-old my family and I traveled to CO and I saw the Broncos practice. I was hooked from that moment on!
Drew, did see I tents do you sleep out waiting for the trains? You really have a fun job.
Anthony - we did camp in tents for our entire stay. Lombard Canyon is so remote that camping on site provides the best access to trains from sunrise to sunset. We were always in the thick of the action!
Great idea! This is something that I’ve not seen done before. It does illustrate a related subject, though; a point-of view when railfanning, vs. perspective on a layout. Someone recently commented in an article that a layout viewed from any noticeable distance above it would be like looking down on rooftops, trains, etc. from above - sort of like from a low-flying plane, say. As Lynn Westcott once said “Get your eyes close to the track!” to appreciate a model railroad to the fullest. I know that I really enjoy looking at things on a layout that are photographed with this in mind (like many of the excellent photos in MR). But, for the “real thing”, I really enjoyed the trailer, and can’t wait to see the full story. Great job, all!
Fred - You are right: railfanning from a low-flying aircraft does provide a perspective very similar to the one we typically have when viewing a model railroad layout. In fact, viewing a prototype train from an altitude of 500 feet above the ground is the same as viewing an N scale train from a distance of about three feet. There are lots of lessons to be learned from experiencing a prototype railroad from an aerial perspective. Drew plans to share some of them with MRVP viewers in an upcoming episode of Drew’s Trackside Adventures.
