Drew’s Trackside Adventures: Episode 6 – Florida East Coast RR
I’m loving MR Video Plus, and Drew’s Trackside Adventures is one of my favorite series. How about some Colorado narrow gauge in the future!
Great job Drew. Each episode gets a little better. Can’t wait for the next one!
I want to give a special thanks to my good friend, Eric Hendrickson, for the tour on this trip!
Drew,
Awesome video. Per chance are you a member of the Fl East Coast Railway Society? Our annual weekend convention is coming up-bet you’d have a great time with us, the society members have built an amazing N scale modular layout–you got to see it. Check out the web site, all the info is there: http://www.fecrs.com/
Best regards
Matt from Florida (another self described FEC nut).
Nice video and nice modeling with the diorama!
Outstanding. The best so far.
Drew, What type of Canon Camera and lenses are you using for video and photos?
Jack Kelley
How come you have to wear a tie and David gets to wear cool Hawaiian shirts??? Not fair.
Thanks everyone! I’m so happy to hear you all are enjoying the show. So, for my “to-do” list… join the FEC Railway Society, get out to Colorado (and Arizona, right Mike?), and wear less ties!
Jack, I use a Canon 30D for pics and I shoot vid with a handheld Sony HD cam. When Ben is out filming with me, he uses the “real deal.” I’ll have to get back to you on that make/model.
Drew, glad you didn’t get run over in Fla. While you’re traveling I hope you can make it up to Canada to get a few shots of the spiral tunnels in BC. PS love the ties, way to class it up!
Great trip. Love the coverage of the older SD locomotive and geeps.
Hi Drew, good job on your small N scale module! This video was cool, good to watch FEC action. Looking forward to your next episode.
Thanks so much for the comments! Working with Drew on Trackside Adventure has been a blast. Also, we use the Sony HDR-AX2000 for most work for MRVP.
Never knew much about the FEC but the video makes it look really interesting.
Drew, Arizona awaits you. The UP Sunset Service Unit, from remote GP switch crews to brand new Gevos, we got it all.
Drew!
Great episode. The FEC has long been my favorite railroad. They actually painted a heritage unit #2000 back in late 2000 long before UP or NS got into the retro game. They don’t run #2000 because of a serious electrical fire and it sits at the New Smyrna yard. They do have 4 other heritage units that are repainted and on the main line.
FEC has long been an innovative railroad. First with 2 man crews, one of the first with EOT devices replacing cabooses, one of the first with concrete ties and welded rail. While UP and others have gotten the most press the FEC has the greatest history going back to It’s origins. No railroad has ever accomplished a feet close to the line to Key West and no rail road has had a greater impact on it’s area served than the Florida East Coast Railway has had on the East coast of Florida. I am working on a modern era HO layout here in Southern IL.

This is just great! I love anything Florida!
Great show Drew , you are better and better , too bad they found somebody to replace Jay Leno …
First time I see a railroad painting the handrail in a contrast color behind the cab where there is 2 steps .
Thank you so much for the comments, guys, I really appreciate it!
Mark, thanks for sharing those notes on the FEC… all very true and very much the reason I like this railroad as well. Please share some photos of your HO project when you can. I’m looking forward to seeing how it turns out!
