Drill Bits

What sizes of drill bits are commonly needed for HO modeling. I have a customer wanting a pin vise and drills, and I can’t remember what sizes mine are. I think I remember size 50-70?

Thanks in advance!

I would get bits at least all the way down to a #80. I use 79s and 80s for grabs and such.

Most sets come in the 60-80 size range. For drilling holes for grab irons and lift rings a #80 is recommended but I have gone as big as #78 after breaking my supply of #80 and #79 bits.

I know what you mean. When I buy my #79 and 80 bits, I buy several at a time. I don’t know if Walthers still sells their brand bits, but they were awesome, although a little pricey.

Lots of #80s they break very easy.
For a set #60-#80
Make sure the vice chuck will handle the small stuff.

I use two sets of numbered bits. One set is #1-#60 and then the small ones 60-80. I have a railroad scale rule that has a conversion table for number sizes to decimal. Harbor freight sells a 50 piece set of remanufactured bits that have a lot of the small sizes with up to 5 duplications for around $7.00 on sale. TARP
