is there any way that a railroad can drop off a car by someones house with special permission from the railroad because my neighbor has lots and lots of scrap steel and i was wondering if they could drop off a gondola by his house and pick it up when full because the loading is not hard (we have a skidsteer) is that possible even for a fee and to arrange for a scrap steel place to send the car? thanks.
Did you ever think about calling the railroad that passes your place. The railroad also needs a spir track to spot the Gon on. You will also be required to obtain the righs to spot a car on someones spir.
By the way you will need a lot of money to do all or this UP FRONT.
I highly doubt it. Besides even if they did the cost of the car would eat into the profits of the scrap, because moving anything by rail costs a good bit of money. Why doesn’t he just haul this scrap off his self, that way he pays for gas only. The price of steel is out of sight, no need to lose your butt by giving it away.
ok just curious because he has ALOT of steel at least 10 to 20 tons of old farm equipment and junk
A gon holds 100 tons. Might as well just take it up to Samuels in Waupun, shouldn’t be that far away. I doubt they will let anybody load a car on the main.
Even 20 tons is much too small to fill a gondola. A scrap metal dealer will drop off a roll-off container that will hold more than that, given the current price of scrap steel this would probably be worth your neighbor making a call…
