Drunk teenager drives onto CSX bridge, gets stuck

Lucky the police saw them first and not the Amtrak Cardinal crew. Results would have been a lot worse.

Looking at a satellite photo, there is no way this was a mistake. The guy drove onto the track, across a street bridge, over the river bridge and was still on an elevated part when he got stuck. Sounds far more like drunk guy deciding to be cool and prove he can drive his truck on the railroad. I hope they throw the book at him. Who knows what would have happened if a passenger train had hit the truck on the tracks?

Sounds like these two have careers as truck drivers ahead of them.

Alcohol and teenagers = stupidity and a dangerous mix.

A similar incident occurrd at Augusta,ga about a month ago when a pair of drunks drove their ford f-150 truck onto the ms savannah river bridge, breaking a large I beam. Perhaps it is the latest “in” thing to do. - al langley

His claim to fame.

would you have used the same headline if they were middle aged or senior citizens?

Any one who drinks and drives near tracks is asking for trouble. The tow bill on this one is probility more than his truck and then his lawer and insurance bill.

I hope CSX presents them with a bill for the cost of the rescue, damage to the track and delay of rail traffic.

you can’t guard against stupity

It is a lot easier to highrail across that bridge than what they did! I have had the opertunity to do just that following a tie unit on that line two years ago. As far as the amtrak goes the speed for them on that section is 25 Mph. Those boys were very lucky.

I assume the driver will get stuck for the cost of the rescue and truck removal. Publish the heck out of the $30,000 or $40,000 cost this guy has incurred. People pay more attention to money than anything else.

The fact is that most drunk drivers who do such “dumb stunts” have their ages, whatever the age, in newspaper articles and the other media.

Aside from that, the data show that the younger people are, the more likely they are to do “stunts” like this. The mention of age might be a good lesson to those who read it. That’s why Operation Lifesaver gives talks to thousands of youths each year in their driver’s training classes.

Yeah,I bet if he said"He must have made a wrong turn" how would he know what turn to make if he was drunk?

It just shows that teens today can’t hold their liquor like we could (tongue in cheek). And Kenneth, the headline would probably have said “Drunk senior…” or just “Drunk…”.

Radford Bean you said it all.

Note to Edmond Bates: I work for a nationwide truckload carrier, in a group that takes new hires and gets them familiar with the company and our practices. I can say unequivocally that we would not accept these two. Their application would be denied.

Coming soon to World’s Dumbest Drivers (and/or World’s Dumbest Criminals)

I wonder what the penalty for an alcohol impaired driver is in the USA? Either way they deserve to get the bill for the down time for the Railways plus rescue costs of their vehicle. As to their age, sadly it is all too often the younger folk who land them selves in the crap and then blame booze as the reason…just an observation…
