For those who haven’t ridden the Alberni Pacific - and most haven’t due to its somewhat out of the way location on the west side of Vancouver Island - it is a beautiful ride behind (generally) a great little steamer. The layover location is great on the trip, a steam-powered sawmill with most of the facilities still there. On many days, they fire the mill up to cut some timber, a very popular event. There are also many buildings with milling and railroading displays, a couple of places to eat, etc. Worth a visit if you are in the area.
