Dry transfers best on glossy or matte finish?

This is my first time trying dry transfers; I know the prevailing wisdom re:decals on a glossy surface. Same for dry transfers?

You can also apply dry transfers to clear decal paper and then apply as normal wet decals, it’s often easier than applying dry transfers directly to the model.

In my experience they go on slightly better with glossy finish, but the important thing is to do an overspray to protect them, otherwise they will not stand up to handling. In the application the difference between gloss and flat is not sufficient to warrant an additional spray coat.
