I have a dt200 that will do nothing but make a buzzing sound. It will not allow me to select any loco nor will it allow me to reset as per instructions. Has anyone had a problem similar to this and what is the cure.
First, for the benefit of those who don’t know what a DT200 is, it is an older Digitrax throttle. It is designed to serve as a throttle and command station for the long-discontinued Digitrax Big Boy system, in the same manner as the NCE PowerCab throttle does for its system.
Boxpox, I haven’t seen this with a DT200, but I’ve seen this with a couple of DT100s- if you’re lucky, the buzzing may be the result of the controller chip in the handheld having worked its way out of its socket. The standard way of dealing with that problem is to unplug the throttle from the system and take out the battery. Place the throttle button-side down in your cupped hand, then smack the back of the throttle sharply with your other hand. This will usually re-seat an unseated controller chip. Reinstall the battery and try using the throttle again.
If this fails, contact Digitrax tech support. While the DT200 has been discontinued for a number of years, so long as the problem isn’t the display or an encoder knob, they might be able to repair it. Your best bet for a fast response is to call them during business hours at (770) 441-7992 (voice) or (770) 441-0759 (fax). While you could e-mail them, you’ll get much faster results by phoning them.
