DT400R doesn't work with UR91

I have a Zephyr and it works well. I have a UT4 and it works well. I have a DT400 and it too works well, as long as it is plugged into the Zephyr. But when I connect the Zep to the UR91, the DT400 stays off with the indication “idle” on the LCD display. I am using the 12V wall wart supplied with the receiver and the battery is good in the throttle. I tried to turn it on with the power button but all that did was light the flashlight LED. What’s going on here?

Bruce,

The DT400R works when plugged directly into the Zephyr? And fails when plugged into the UR91? Sounds like the Loconet cable between the Zephyr and the UR91 may be the culprit. Does the UT4 work when plugged into the UR91? If not, you have a connection issue between the Zephyr and the UR91.

Jim

Jim, the DT400R works fine when plugged into the UR91.Otherwise it just says “idle”

???

Does your throttle battery have sufficient voltage (i.e., 7 volts or higher)? I remember reading that once the battery gets below a certain level, it won’t transmit a strong enough signal.

Have you posed your question to the Yahoo Digitrax Group ? They’ve always been able to help me out whenever I’ve run into problems.

To use the DT400R wirelessly you have to acquire a locomotive(or consist) with the DT400R and the UR91 both plugged in(the DT400R can be plugged into the UR91). After acquiring the locomotive, you can unplug the DT400R and operate it wirelessly.

I would first try a brand new battery, I have seen the same behavior in the past even when the battery seems good.

That was it! I acquired the loco by plugging the throttle into the UR91 and now it works. Do I have to acquire each loco to make it work?

Yes, each time you want to change locomotives, you have to plug back in(you can, however, have two locomotives selected at once on the DT400R). That is the one major complaint that many people have with Digitrax wireless.

Yes, each time you want to acquire a locomotive you will need to plug back into a throttle panel, either the UR91 or another panel such as a UTP or UTP5.

To some it is a big draw back, me I can live with it without any problem.

The rumor is Digitrax will have a two way wireless radio system by the end of the year, wait and see.

I am waiting for the full duplex two way radio that will communciate with the loconet both ways full time.

Only then will I upgrade to radio.

Sounds like a case of not a moment too soon. Six months ago would have been nice. [:-^]

It is more than a rumor at this point. The Digitrax group on Yahoo had the links to the FCC web site with the application documentation for the new system. According to reports from the NMRA this new Duplex system will happily coexist with the existing UP91 simplex system. There is also a report that existing DT400’s will be able to be upgraded to the 2 way solution. I am another one saving my pennies awaiting its release.
