Dual gauge track

I’m building a transition track. Are there any prototype pictures? I guess the prototype needed this type of track too.

Wolfgang,

Please define what you mean by “transition track.” There are a plethora of different dual-gauge turnout and other track configurations. The only transition tracks that come to mind are a “switch” that goes from three-rail to four-rail (as used in approaching a turntable) and a “switch” changing the interior third rail from one side to the other (as might be used for a wye track arrangement), although those aren’t technically switches at all as they don’t require moveable parts: only one or two non-moving “points” and no frogs.

Come to think of it, these track arrangements could be constructed with moveable point(s) or rely on guard rails to pull wheels across to open point(s).

I’m building a module where the narrow gauge changes from the right side to the left side. That means at first the common rail is the right rail. Then it changes and the common rail will be the left rail.

Sorry, Wolfgang, I have no prototype pictures.

BK Enterprises makes them. In HOn3 they are $22, although they are about the easiest of turnouts to scratchbuild. I don’t know if these are for fixed or moveable point arrangements, but you or they could build them either way.

Looks like you’re well on your way. The worry I’d have is the likely problem of wheels dropping down transitioning over a fixed, open point. I’d recommend moveable points if this is a problem.

Yes, I made just the pic and added it.

I like scratch building. And it’s much cheaper. [:)]

I will fill the gap. This way the flanges will not drop into the hole. To have a moveable point would be too complicated for a layout - and some fans. [:)]

Therefore I’ve asked for the prototype solution.

Anyone who doesn’t think dual-gage track is neat looking lives in a universe different from mine.

Nice work, I may try one. I have been using Tillig prefab duel gaugeHO/HOe (HO/HOn30) transition and flex track for many years now. I am not sure if the transition track is still available. If anyone is interested in HOn30, try calling a dealer such as Reynaulds: 1-888-762-6872 Peter Smith, Memphis
