I repsoted this here to get more respnses.
They are supposed to be putting it on hold for further investigation. A lot of local opposition to it here. The Port of Newark is already considered high risk, so it needs to be looked into very carefully. Our local government is trying to stop it completely, I believe.
Since Houston is one of the ports in question, Ed B. from Houston and the Port Railroad there would be a good one to chime in on this subject.
I wonder how many of the containers are opened and inspected upon arrival?
What security measures are taken upon receiving them from ship to railroad?
supposedly only 5% of all containers that are imported are actually inspected and/or checked. i don’t really care for this as much as the next guy but the Brits had ownership of this for a long time previous. now that they want to sell it to some camel jockeys everyone raises a stink. all the security at these ports is to remain the same as it has been. just the people signing the checks will now read from right to left. aye, it’s an election year, had this been a year or two ago i bet we wouldn’t have heard anything about it.
…The operation / management of said Ports was under priviate British Co’s…and now to be done by Dubai Port World Co…owned by the STATE…{not priviate concerns}…This is one of the differences…and causing problems. Personally I hope Congress gets this out in the open with complete hearings and takes appropriate action…of legislation if necessary.
Don’t sweat it, Americans will still work there and run security.
Depends on where it comes from…most of the time, if it fits on the trailer, dosnt fall off at the first turn, and donst have nuclear weapons stenciled on the side, it comes off the ship and out the gate asap…
The PTRA and the Port Of Houston are two seperat indenties.
We have a lifetime contract to work the city dock and some of the other areas, but the container part down at the turning basin is all ship to truck, Barbors cut handles the ship to train.
I havent seen extra ordinary security there, but then I dont get out there a lot.
My understanding is that the great concern are employees of the Dubai firm. Employees would have a much easier access to US entry and freer movement within. I think the big concern is some potential terrorist gaining employment with the company and working his way within more than with the actual shipments.

I do not see this as a good idea.Selling the ports to an Arab government owned firm opens the way for terrorists to get info on port operations and proceedures. this is very dangerous[:(][:(!].
Dont worry, WE GOT ED B. PROTECTING OUR PORTS!!![:D][bow][4:-)]
…64% of citizens are opposed to it…and there are plenty of concerns attached to the condition…We’re going to hear much more as more hearings and legislation on the way to stop it…plus law suits in process in NY and NJ and some other states to get it stopped…
Locking this before it turns political. See my reasoning here:
