I was looking through one of my Model Railroader magazines tonight and saw
a O gauge layout that had a portion of the track with both standard and narrow
gauge rail. Can this be done in HO? And I assume it would involve hand laying
of the track…? This seems like it would be interesting to do… one day. Dave
Dave,
It is done and there is commercial track available and even switches…Shinohara makes it. I was palnning on this in the early stages of my new layout but have since dropped the idea.
Dave Trainnut1250 has it…there are a few companies besides Shinohara, not sure of the names though. GarGraves makes dual gauge track in larger scales.

For a larger variety of dual gauge turnout types, B&K Enterprises can custom build turnout kits (as well as crossings) at a reasonable price that are then easy to handlay. There is also a firm in Reno, Nevada that will do it too. Can’t think of that company’s name, however.
