I have an SD40-2 dummy that runs/pulls ok but it needs weight to preform better (at least i think so). Is there any kind of “rule of thumb” out there for engine weights similar to the way of weighting rolling stock?
Thanks in advance.

All of my “dummy” loco’s are weighted the same as all other rolling stock. 1 oz. plus 1/2 oz. per inch in length. In some cases they have been to heavy to begin with and I’ve had to reduce the weight some. Any two axle truck seems to work better if the engine is heaver, and three axle trucks a bit lighter. Good luck.
I put $ 0z. of lead in all my powered locos, and for unpowered ones treat them as rolling stock.
