Dump your logs here

Scenes from McLean sawmill site. The log dump is on the earthen dam that created the log pond. Once a logging railroad brought the logs. Trucks replaced the railroad. Note the spillway. The fueling station (close-up pictures are in “Fill it up” thread) is along the road opposite the mill. A wire cable, whose end was tied, nooselike, around an end of the log, pulled the log up the metal-plated ramp by powered winch. Don’t overlook the outboard-powered boat for shunting logs in the pond.

Nice shots. Thanks. [bow]

Hi Mark,

Those are terrific scenes of a sawmil and pond. I have enclosed a photo of the sawmill and pond on my HO layout. Logs are dumped off railroad logging cars, and from trucks. I have to weather the sawdust burner, so that it isn’t shiny (like the nose cone of a WWII bomber.) My biggest problem is that Magic Water has a tendency to “creep” up the sides of logs and up the pond bank. Any suggestions would be appreciated, as to how to prevent “plastic water creep”!Incidentally, the entire diorama is mounted on a pull-out drawer pond and a lift-out sawmill, so that one has access to the tracks and backdrop in the rear.
