Dusty Trains

Sad to say it’s been so long since I’ve run trains that my rolling stock is covered in dust. [sigh] I tried a Swiffer, but its too coarse.

How do you folks dust rolling stock?

I use the dusting brush that came with my vacuum cleaner.

I have never cleaned my trains till this weekend. I found a hand held battery operated vaccuum cleaner at a yard sale for a dollar. It works great.

I use a big, fat, soft make-up brush. Works like a charm and doesn’t disturb all those delicate details. But get your wife or your girlfriend to buy it–they really give me STRANGE looks when I hit the Cosmetics counter at Macy’s, LOL!

…and if you’re too embarressed to purchase cosmetic brushes, use soft artist brushes. You may use water with dish detergent for a good cleaning while obviously being careful not to break small parts.

I use a 1" paint brush. It removes the dust right off without damaging anything…chuck

I too use paintbrushes…the kind with the “feathered bristle”

see link http://www.the-org.net/paintbrush_create.jpg

Any clean and relatively soft bristle brush, but not of the vegetable or pot scrubber type. It should be an artist’s or a smaller trim painting brush with real bristles. At the same time that you gently wave this implement over the dusty surface, have a lightweight vacuum cleaner wand right there too so that the vacuum wafts away the disturbed dust (or use your paint hood)…why let it settle over other things nearby, enter your lungs, cover the adjacent track or nearby ground cover and structures? Best to have it “in the bag”.

Soft bristle 1" paint brush and an air compressor.

I have never cleaned my trains (except for wheels), I like the natural weathering.[:-^]

I use a soft 1" paint brush as well.

I use a feather duster. Sometimes I’ll use an air compressor.

I have N scale, I just blow on them real hard. Sorta works. A friend of mine in O scale just considers it instant weathering.

Paint brush usually. Sometimes a can of dust off. Or you can put them in the dishwasher.[:-^]
