Dyer to end station maintenance

I wonder if Amtrak will relocate the stop to a neighboring city.

I agree with P. Nichols, how tough would it be to maintain???
That station would take perhaps … an hour, every once in a
while. Not many passengers use it to make a mess.

The Dyer town gov’t needs a dose of reality check.
Too bad the station isn’t in St. John’s or some place else.

Have you ever seen an overworked government employee? Me either. Sounds to me like they were just trying to get more money from Amtrak.

I hope so, if they can

What town projects?99% of stuff done in Dyer is usually donated labor and donated materials.

The answer here is for Amtrak to bid it out to the public sector. One arm of government hiring another has to be the makings of a good joke!

Another entity checking on the performance of a munincipal employee? Heaven forbid!. Probably more people and time is needed for the ballfields which only a minority uses.

Maybe Amtrak or Dyer could reach out to thr Community with an “Adopt a Depot” in the samr way the “Adopt a Highway” program and put up a sign stating that “this Station Cared for by (_________)” and allow an indivule or a organization maintain and receive credit for Dyer Station/Depot care.

“Maintenance” is too vague a word, are they talking about having to maintain the parking lot, the structure, the paint, the electrical, the plumbing, the landscaping or are they just talking about cleaning the bathrooms, mopping the floors and restocking the toilet paper and paper towels. There may be more than just an hour a month how to take care of this place. There is also the age of the facility to to consider.

The station has no bathrooms, it is just a open shelter with a ramp, platform, and parking lot. I’d wonder how many private contractors would love to make $12K/year for occasional snow shoveling, sweeping and maybe windex the glass walls of the shelter.

Heck we would have done the job for nothing only if the US boarder services would allow my crew to cross the boarder un hindered from Canada., and allow us the advertising rights.!!!

Dyer needs to cut its administrative staff. Savings of passing on one staff member’s duties to another underworked staff member above him should be more than enough to pay for the station maintenance costs and take care of a few ball fields, too. It’s ridiculous government has to hire more individuals for the sake of watching other’s efficiencies. Where are the budget hackers screaming about that-oh no,that will cause more unemployement.
