E-60 CF

Found a model locomotive on ebay, called an E-60 CF it has a pantograph included in the box, it sort of looks like an electric loco, one was Pennsylvania, another Conrail and one was BM&LP, have never seen even a photo of this particulaR loco, anyone have any idea what it is ?

I think American GK made them. They had the Amtrak E60 and the single end freight units you are looking at. I think Walthers picked them up at some point, but dropped the line after a year or so. IIRC, they had Athearn ‘BB’ drive parts from the Athearn GE ‘U-Boats’.

Jim has the history of the model down, so I’ll just add that the Black Mesa & Lake Powell was the only road you mentioned that actually owned any E60CFs.

Neither the Pennsylvania nor Conrail actually had E60CFs, or anything that looked much like them. Those paint jobs are fanciful “what ifs.”

Bachmann made models of them too

lots of fantasy schemes there.

The AGK model, later Walthers, is not actually a model of the production E60C (dunno where the F comes from, the official designation is E60C for the single cab versions, E60CH/CP for the Amtrak double enders, depending on if it has head-end power or not.). The AGK models are of a never-built second generation design.

yeah, there’s a BN one that some company made. llooked nice but I just don’t feel like the BN would be an Electric locomotive user, even though the GN did.

Back in the mid 70’s, BN & UP both were investigating electric operation out of the PRB. UP even put up a couple overhead electric towers along their mainline to see how they fared in winter weather. Of course, fuel prices dropped and any idea of electrification was shelved.

are they being used in mexico, I saw a couple pictures on my look last night and saw one coupled to what appeared to be an NdeM unit.

The NdeM units are double ended, more like the Amtrak passenger ones. Some of them got sold to the BM & LP and are used there.

thought so because there were BL&MP units and NdeM units MUed.
