With just going DCC and Sound and shelling out some pretty good sizes bucks for Steam in DEC ($700.00 is a lot for me) I was on the cheap for DCC Diesels. Lowest price K-10 Trains had in the way of Diesels with sound was $199.99, out of my budget.
Then I spotted this listing for under coated FA-2’s with DCC and sound used.
Seller does not know what decoders or sound system is in them, but they came DCC with sound.
Guess asking after the point is not smart, but I trust PK’s. If they are the older brown box I all ready have the center gears to replaces the split ones.
If you’re looking for a diesel with sound, you can’t beat Walthers latest sale prices on their Proto 2000 series locos. I just got their catalog and here are the prices.
Proto 2000 SW8/900 with DCC & Sound $99.98! That is an incredible price with sound
Proto 2000 U30B with DCC & Sound $109.98!
Their steam loco’s are a little higher with sound…USRA 0-8-0 Sound & DCC $179.98
For a hundred bucks it sure is worth it.
You can also find “Trainhaus” on Ebay and buy them for the same price if you would rather do it that way.
I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say when you get them they will NOT have sound. And no DCC decoder.
If I were really mean I’d say the handrails and/or steps will be broken - they are SUPER delicate, as I found out with mine. I will be getting a metal handrail set to repalce all the plastic ones so I will be able to at least pick the loco up and set it on the track. There is pretty much no place to touch them without hitting a detail, even the usual method of picking up by the trucks - oops, there’s small step details there.
Even non-sound, that’s a good deal for some very nicely detailed locos. I’m pretty sure the new release with sound were not offered undecorated, plus it says “this is the older version”. Now, maybe someone put a Soundtraxx in them, it’s possible
Rrinker, only reason I bought them besides the $ is if I do not like them I can get my money back less shipping. I will let you folks know what happens when I get them.
I suspect that the DCC and Sound will not be part of this FA sale.
I owned 4 FA units from Proto until I re-sold them on ebay. Proto did not come out with Sound or DCC units until very recently under Walthers.
What you may have is a decoder that was installed along with a speaker; in those ebay FA engines, I say buyer beware.
I think some of the pricing we will see will fall even further on the Sound and DCC equippted units later this year. Especially in light of several recent events involving some very pricey HO scale models.
I think for 50 dollars you did good, especially when you indicated that you are ready to handle the gear problem.
Offhand, I’d say you did great. P2K stuff usually goes for quite a bit more, and if both units run have power, DCC, and sound, you stole 'em! Nice work!
