I purchased an Atlas HO SD-26 gold series loco with the e dmd decoder already installed. Being the novice that I am, I was told it was set up with flashing ditch lights and strobe. I guess I was taken in. Two things if anyone can answer, is this set up for these options. and can anyone help me break it down. I don’t want to damage the loco and it didn’t come with any diagrams. I am new to this and would rather ask than to damage the loca.
Thanks for your help
Bill
O, why am I the first one to be posting. I don’t like to visit a question like this when there is no first post yet not have anything helpful!
Well, when someone knowledgeable pops around, I hope you find the answers, because I don’t wanna see a gold series go to waste.
I’ll just treat my post as a bump
Keeping mindful of the fact that I do not know this particular decoder, but my suggestions are common to all other decoders I know of.
A couple of things to check. Trace the Ditch light wires. If they connect to the same pad as the headlamps, then no the engine is not wired for independent ditchlamp operation. Assuming it is a factory installed decoder, it probably is wired correctly though.
If they do run to different pads than the headlamps on the decoder then it is one of two things, both of which would be decoder CV settings. Either the decoder is mapped to operate a seperate function button just for the ditchers or the decoder has not been mapped to have the ditchers flash when the horn is sounded.
You may also need to refer to the operation manual for this decoder to see what function button operates the ditchers and/or the beacon. If you do not have the decoder manual I would check the Atlas web site. Most manuals are a free download.
from your posts I see you were looking at a Digitrax Zephyr, did you buy one or are you running your atlas loco on DC. The ditch lights flashing will probably only work on DCC it’s a function button thing.
