E switch mechanism

I have a Lionel 2037 Locomotive that the reversing lever has broken off my E-switch. I connected a wire to the center post and coil, it runs good in this position, Fwd, Stop, Rev. Stop, etc…using the 1043 transformer. What I need to know is, will this do any harm to my Loco when it is sitting still in the neutral position while it “buzzes”?

If you don’t get any replies that help try posting on the Classic Toy trains forum.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard an E-unit that doesn’t buzz in neutral - until the new electronic versions came out. Some E-units are louder than others. The buzzing is because Lionel runs on AC instead of DC, and the relay is “chattering” in the neutral position as the voltage goes to zero 120 times a second. No harm is done, but it can be annoying. There are ways to quiet the E-units, but I have never done it. As advised, there is a lot more knowledge about Lionel, American Flyer, and other 3 rail O trains on the Classic Toy Trains Forum.
