E-Z Mate Mark II Couplers.......help.

I have a HO, 28" X 15’ shelf, switching layout. I have just started this hobby, and have a Bachmann 0-6-6 Saddle Tanker, and a few rolling stock, also by Bachmann, with E-Z Mate couplers.

I have installed Bachmann undertrack magnetic uncoulpers. The problem is when I PULL (1) car across the uncoupler, it uncouples. I have this problem with all of my cars. Pulling several of them and its OK. The coulpers are OK on the height

Am I in big trouble, and should have gone with Kadee, delay, under the track. (and how dose that work?).or is there some way to not make this magnet not as stronge?..sorry, I’m just guessing, and would hate to cut the track out to replace all 10 of them!!!

Thanks for any help you can give me!!!

Robert

The magnet is probably stronger than the cheap plastic coupler. Switch to KaDees.

KaDees are the way to go. I bought some rolling stock yesterday and seen it had the cheap couplers on it so I bought some KaDees and switched them out.

OK…thank you both…I will switch them all for Kadee’s.

No problem sir. I just gave you my input so you know my stuff ( athearns ) came with the cheapos too!

Run a train over the uncoupler very slowly. While the cars travel over the magnet, observe to see if the cars go slack while they’re over the magnet. A locomotive with a jerky movement will cause what’s happening. Another cause is uneven trackwork or benchwork. Set a free rolling car near the magnet; if the car rolls all by itself, it’s a sign that the benchwork is uneven. I have a couple of places like that. Find the low stop and insert a leg with an adjuster under that spot and adjust it to remove the low spot.

I suggest that you buy Scale Kadee #58 Couplers. They look better, and they won’t break
