E-Z Track ??

I am new to modeling starting out with a Bachamann HO scale Silver Star set with figure 8 EZ track. The layouts I’ve been looking at talk about balisting the track. Does the EZ track have to stay on its supplied road bed or can you take it off?
If you cant take it off can you balist it?
and lastly when setting up yor terrain can you connect the plaster wrap to the roadbed
getting this set for Christmas and any help would be great
thanks Big R

You can ballast the easy track, but if you are planning a permanent layout you should go with flex track. With flex track you have to lay roadbed (usually cork) seperately, but you can make any sixe turns you like in any design that suits your fancy. Plus the flex track comes in three foot lengths so there are fewer joints on a layout.
Fewer joints = better running. Plus the whole process is MUCH cheaper than EZ track. One 3 foot section of flex track and roadbed costs about the same as a 9 inch section of EZ track.

Both options that you describe are possible. However The Track is glued to the road bed. But it generally comes lose with some gentle prying in my experience. It can also be ballasted. Woodland Scenics makes several different colors so you can choose one most appropriet. Also if you don’t mind the smell, I have seen coffe grounds (Unused) used effectivly as a dark brown balast color…
