Early P2K GP shell?

I’ve got a chassis for an early P2000 GP…from around 1996 or so?..maybe a GP18?

Anyone know what shells would fit this chassis? In other words, do the GP7/9/18/20/30 etc. share the same chassis? It is a low nose chassis.

I hate to have a good running chassis with no body to run on it!

Well, the GP7/9 were identical externally, and the GP18 had a different screen on the radiator, and the GP30 shared the same chassis as the GP20, and I think the GP30 also shares the frame of the gP9, which shares the gP18, so yeah, GP7/8/9/18/20/30 might all fit. Don’t act soley on my word though, I ain’t an expert or nuthin’, just my [2c]

You might also put an old Atlas GP7 shell on it, a little filing of the shell may be needed. I did this back before Life-Like came out with their GP7’s and GP9’s. I had a P2K GP18 that took a trip to the floor and found the Atlas shell at one of Howard Zane’s train shows.

You can go on HO Yard Sale on Yahoo and post a request for a shell when you figure out which one you want. I see a lot of undecorated shells up for sale there.

That’s a thought. Something else I can watch for.

I don’t believe I’ve ever seen that site.

First I have to determine what definitely fits. I thought Life-like had parts diagrams and listings online, but I can’t find them on Walthers site.

Thanks y’all. [:D]

No, they weren’t.

And, the GP30 is longer than the GP7/9/18/20. The 30 and 35 share a frame length.

hey, I said I wasn’t an expert, didn’t I? [:D][:P][swg] (meant to be taken lightly)

Here’s the Proto 2000 GP-18 diagram.

Here’s the Yardsale site. You have to join, but it’s free. Lots of good stuff for sale on it.

The Proto 2000 GP 7, 9, 18, and 20 all use the same weights and frame.

The GP30 uses the same frame, but the weight is different, and thus the shell won’t fit.

I happen to have both the GP9 and the GP30.

You can look on ebay for shells, I’ve seen an ATSF GP9 shell for 10 bucks before.
