Early Proto 2000 PA motors draw 3 amps, how to change the motor?

Hi everyone
I have just converted to DCC and my early model Proto 2000 PA motor is drawing huge current decoder
Does anyone know how and where I can find a replacement motor?
I understand later models only draw 1 amp. I don’t want to have to buy a new loco if I can help it, and I understand Lifelike is being bought by Walthers, (please correct me if I am wrong). So I can not contact Lifelike.

Any ideas please
Regards Phil

You can contact Walthers for P2K parts. At one time I believe LL was offering repalcement motors, I don’t know if they still are but it can’t hurt to contact them. The new motor is the same physical size as the old one so it’s a realtively simple matter to replace it.

Phil,

Walthers already bought LifeLike and did so back in 2005. At first they were really scurrying to try and get their LL parts department organized. I think they have a better handle on it now. However, I haven’t bought any parts from them directly so I can’t really tell you for sure. Definitely worth a call.

Phil, keep us posted what you find out…
