I have two SP GP9s and an SD9 in Black Widow that need to be upgraded with plows. So far, it looks like I’m choosing between Details West #s 235-120, -140(?), -233 and Precision Scale # 585-39055. Which of these - or something else - is appropriate? Will mounting be fairly straightforward? Also, did SP install them on both ends of their road untis? Thanks, all.
From the photos I have of early SD’s you might be better off with Details West 235-110 They have footboards and the early plows had footboards. Later on some units had plows like 235-120. Plows were only put on the fronts of the units. Some of the plows I’ve added are pretty easy to install. Hope this helps
Take a look at the Walther’s site. Do an advanced search for snow plows under super detail parts.
I have seen some there that might work.

While I’m at it, did SP GP9s have a bell? Have been looking at lots of photos on-line and can’t seem to nail one down along the undercarriage (either side) or anywhere above.
I looked at over 50 photos of SD 9’s and I could not spot one. But I know they had them, I think they were tucked up in front of the front truck. For sure there NOT on the body anywhere. I remember them ringing when I used to hang out at the SP Redwood City depot when I was a kid.
SP LIVES ON !!
Regarding the Geeps, sometime ago there were photos published in some forums of the pending Athearn Genesis jobs. The caption to one of the shots says that the bell is “tucked up behind the right-front stepwell”. That photo is centered on the fuel tank. Too bad the right end of the photo is cut off and you can’t see anything under the cab. I’m having to assume that the “stepwell” spoken of is the one going up from the walkway along the long hood to the rear of the cab on the engineer’s (right) side. That would place the GP9 bell barely aft of the trailing trailing wheel of the front truck, behind the lead edge of the skirting. (Google on “diesel detailer athearn genesis gp7 and gp9 bell”). How 'come I haven’t noticed it there on any photos? I would presume the Athearn folks locate it there based on some evidence. I really expected to find something on Trainweb’s great site covering SP5623. Not.
