Eastern US Railroads?

Hi guys,

OK, so my vacation starts at the end of this week and I’m about to embark on a RV trip thru the states of : Lousiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South and North Carolina, Virginia, Washington DC, West Virginia, Kentucky, Southern Indiana and Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and back home to Texas over a 17 day period.

One of my favorite things to do is pull over on the side of the road and “railfan;” taking pictures of the trains as they go by. I figure that I’ll be seeing trains consisting of the UP, KCS, CSX, and the NW railroads but my question is, what other Class 1 railroads will I see throughout these mentioned states?..I model the SP and got it down pat but for other railroads, I really don’t know which ones I’ll be seeing on my travels…chuck

Southern (NS) is predominating in the southeast and Atlantic corridor. If going to you might see the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad (NOPB) as well.

Oh, and if you are near Blowing Rock, NC go ride on the Tweetsie Railroad, it is a fun place too.

Oh, oh, and if you are near Spencer, NC you have to visit the North Carolina Transportation Museum, it is located in the old Spencer locomotive shops of the Southern Railroad.

Chuck,

When you are in WV, you should stop at the Cass Scenic RR for a completely different RRing experience. I haven’t gone yet but sure would like to.

Tom

This is great!..I just checked out the website and it’s on the route i’m going to take thru WV. I think my wife and i will definetly go there…i just hope i make it on a weekend because it’s the only time they run the trains in September. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
