Ebay items at reasonable prices?

I call that outright ignorance on the part of anyone who buys it.

I recall seeing those boxcars and others like it long ago as a child at prices rivaling the cost of today’s King-sized hershey bar at a gas station.

The shipping? Hah. I can ship that thing Priority anywhere in the USA for about… 5 bucks if I pack it right.

What am I to do with that RTR 30 dollar boxcar I just took home? Well… they did not have those when I was younger.

Years ago I ran into some orginal Lensley (Spelling?) miniture cars which was from the UK as a competition to the HOT Wheels of the early 70’s complete with orginal boxes. The seller was asking 100- for one. Maybe I should dig up what few survivors from my parts bin and sell them at a handsome profit too. OY!

Actually, my rant was thoroughly tongue-in-cheek, and an attempt to inoculate this thread against those who might come in here ranting about another eBay thread. [:D]

Not that any names come to mind… [:-^]

I second the memories.

Just seeing the box on that product opened up a few doors of places Ive been holding a few dollars looking to buy a train car but completely forgotten over the years.

What I always wonder about are those big sellers who will have a loco or other item with a high starting bid, or “Buy It Now” price that won’t sell and gets perpetually relisted. There are some that are like permanent auctions. Either they think they’ll recoup the listing fees when that one bidder finally comes along, or eBay offers a flat rate to the high volume guys.

BTW, our dude has competition: Bachmann HO Scale Train Chessie Car

I agree. Looking at what else this seller is selling he probably has no idea of what it is really worth. He probably went on e-bay and searched, then set a price based on an average of what he found or wanted to believe. I doubt it is an active attempt to swindle people. Unlike some others I have seen on e-bay.

Why all the hate over this type of boxcar? I have alot of these from my beginnig months in the hobby, and with some detail, they workout OK, mind you, but nevertheless it looks as if the second item’s seller has no clue about the item.

I have personally bid on at least 20 to 30 different things on ebay. I’ve purchased exactly three of them. All were bargains, all very worth what I paid. Someone else already posted this: shop educated, and remember if it’s too good to be true…
