Ebay locos??

HI guys i was looking at Ebay today and saw these items and wondered if any one has feedback on them?? They dont make new locos of the ones i want so this would be a good alternative. I was thinking of bidding on the following items.

Thanxs for the info[:)]

I’m not experienced with Ebay…but…

I would be skeptical of bidding on these items. The pictures are rather blurry, and the seller seems a bit unsure of himself on the SD7 as to it’s box, which sends up a red flag to me as to whether the seller fully understands what he is selling. On the other hand, his feedback record is 100%.

I’m skeptical of using Ebay at all, but I wish you best of luck in case you do choose to bid.

Then again, I’m skeptical about Ebay threads because they always seem to cause a flame war. I just hope this doesn’t go south.

note look at all of there feedback every one and read em closly and find out if he sold locos in the past and what ppl sya

If you are looking for insights on the locomotives themselves, I’ve got 3 of the SW9/1200s which I’m happy with. I haven’t tried installing decoders in them yet, but there are a number of “how to” articles out there on that process, including one from MRR from a few months back. While they aren’t Katos or Atlas VO1000s, they are reliable and good runners, at least from my experience.

Thanks Adelie-I have the SW9 in B&M but it is by LLs Proto division this might be a older version though. I would probabbly send it to Tonys for a decoder install unless its DCC ready wich i doubt[:(] I was not planning on buying any locos until fall because I am still laying track and need more freight cars but these will not be $60-80 a engine like the ones I usually buy. I just would use it to switch one of my 2 yards. Thanxs for the help everyone[^]

Check the feedback, if they have less than 98% I usually don’t touch them. But just to be fair, if you like an item, read the feedback, it is not always fair and most time I find that the seller is the legitimate one and the negative feedback from the buyer is not worthy.

I wouldn’t bid on it…LifeLike was complete crap until Proto took over…that looks to be the older versions also.

I agree, check to make sure this is a Proto 1000, or 2000 item. Anything other than that, that is made by Life Like is crap.

Welcome to the forum…

I also am a Boston & Maine guy and I saw the same Ebay items you pointed out. The first thing that stood out to me when I looked at these engines is that they seem to have seen better days. They look dirty and worn. If that is the look that you are going for, then go for it.

The first engine is a Life Like Proto 2000 switcher. I have 2 of them and they run great. They are fantastic little engines with great detail. I have converted both of them to DCC and I must warn you, it was not an easy conversion.

The second engine is also a life like Proto 2000 made in the mid 90’s. It is not DCC ready and I had to send it off to a DCC guy and have him install a decoder for me. It runs nice, but I wouldn’t call it one of my best B&M engines.

The last engine never existed on the B&M. It is an SD-7. The B&M had GP-7’s and GP-9’s. What’s even stranger is that the Paint scheme of this engine is the same paint scheme that the GP-9’s and GP-18’s had “as delivered” from the factory. They were later repainted to solid blue. If you are looking for realistic engines that actually ran on the B&M, stay away from this SD-7.

You mentioned that it’s difficult to find locomotives in the B&M and I agree. I have been collecting engines now for about 2 years and have almost 30 now, mainly from the late steam to early diesel time frame. If you want, contact me of the forum and I’ll be happy to provide you info on all of my engines and who makes them. Although it has been a challenge to find some of them, I have been able to build quite a little collection and I am adding a few more this month.

accord1959 and SpitFireV12RR Wake up Guys…Life Like is P2K…P1K and P2K is HO…The engines you are looking at are N Scale Life Like AND A a Atlas GP9! These are NOT crap by any means.

And if you had taken the time to look you would have seen this engine is NOT a SD7 like he claims but a Atlas GP9!

Anybody want to send the seller a nice e-mail pointing out his mistake? Or do we not want to open up that can of worms again?

Proto 1000 and 2000 ARE Life-Like. They upgraded their engines to Proto 2000, then offered the 1000 line with lesser details, Both 1000 and 2000 have the same running mechanisms.

Decide how much you’re willing to pay for each of these. It’s best to be pretty firm about your decision. Right now, nobody is bidding these up, but that could change. (As of this writing, they’re going for a dollar, but the high bidders might have a higher “maximum bid” already registered.) Include the shipping cost in your “willing to pay” amount, because you’ll be stuck with that, too.

I wouldn’t get into a bidding war on any of these, particularly if you’re not experienced in engine repairs. Still, if there isn’t a lot of other interest, you might get one of these for 10 or 15 bucks, and for that it’s a good buy even if you end up gutting it and using it as a dummy.

Brakie- I should have noticed that as i have 2 GP7s!!! (wich as you know are essentially the same as a Gp9). I will bid on them but will not pay $$60 for them. MisterBeasly-I would send them to Tonys for a DCC conversion (eventually!!). Does Tonys do coupler replacments??? Mike-I emailed Atlas a while back to ask them if they planned to realise any B&M Locos,i got a response saying that "we do not make B&M Gp7s (or 9s) because the B&M models are diffrent then the ones they make? Any one no if this is true. He did not even tell me if he was going to make any other B&M locos. I only no of 2 currently made B&M diesels. Wich are a LL Proto SW8 and a Intermountain F3A and B. DO you know of any others. (in N scale) By the way i think you made a mistake about welcoming me to the forum. I have actaully been here since September 05. Thanxs for all the help everyone.

Dito.

Oh c’mon time
