Ebay or other sites... ?

Gents,

I’ve been searching around for a few days (google and these forums) to find a web site that hosts classifieds for model railroad equipment. Other than ebay, are there any ‘good’ sites out there? I have ran across a few, but they looked a bit ‘shady’ to me, so i figured I’d ask the experts.

Anyone know of any?

Thanks in advance!

I’ve never personally ever used it or even looked at it, but HO Yardsale seems to get favorable comments periodically on these forums.

Yes, HOYardsale (one word) in Yahoo Groups is fairly busy. It is privately run and the owner has strict guidelines for posting. This is good because it keeps everything even. You list your item(s) with a price and shipping and wait for replies. I’ve sold a few items on the list last fall, and they went fairly quickly. Since there is a fair amount of traffic on the site, if your item doesn’t sell in a short time, it can be pushed way down on the list.

Keep in mind with this private site that you do not have the protection offered by eBay and PayPal. And you don’t have their ever increasing fees either. They now charge final value fee on the selling price and the shipping price.

There are 2 sites on yahoo Groups. HO Yard sale and HO swap. I watch both sites plus Ebay for things I want. All are good. Happy hunting! -Stan

I don’t do ebay and don’t like HOYardsale at Yahoo Groups.

If you go to www.modelrailroadforums.com and join and scroll down near the bottom is a link to a listing thread where you can buy/sell/trade/give away anything you want in the MRR field…

Some forum readers DO notice how many posts you have posted and are leery of anyone who joins just to jump in and sell stuff…so maybe you want to check out the whole site’s threads to determine if you have somehting to post to other threads…There seems to be no restrictions and mostly I have seen stuff sold off…just be sure if you post a topic with FS items {For Sale} that you UPDATE it so people know what has sold, you can edit your post to enter in a “sold sign” next to an item. It’s a decent site over all…and if you price your stuff reasonably no reason you shouldn’t sell it off…

good luck!

i check into Hoyardsale every few days. sometimes something good pops up. generally i like it. you just deal with the seller, usually a set price. i like the no bidding aspect of it. the bidding on ebay [usually 7 days] seems a long time to wait for something you might lose in the end. just my thoughts. michael.

I have bought a few items on HOYardsale without problems. If you follow it, its usually the same few dozen sellers. Unfortunately what few bargains are listed sell real fast. I’m a tightwad and have found few things on HOYardsale that I can’t buy for a lot less on eBay. But it doesn’t hurt to look.

Excellent information guys, thanks
