There is a spur here in Chula Vista that always has 55’ ACF hoppers with the reporting marks ECUX. Can one of you freight car gurus I.D. these for me. And mabee point me to where the reporting marks are listed. I tried the AAR site with no luck. Thanks.
Exxon Chemical…is there a large plastic user in the area?
Ed
I don’t know of any off the top of my head. I’ll have to look around and see where these cars are going. The place I always see them is a spur used for storeage not where they are unloaded. There is some industry down in that area further south. Time to do some exploreing. Thanks for the help Ed.[8D]
Ed, where can I see a list of reporting marks?
Hey Chad, found a site here under Trains.com!

Thanks Brian, That was hidden in a real good place…right under my nose.[;)]
Google never ceases to amaze me- did a search on Railroad Reporting Marks, and that site was #1 on the list.[8D]
It never ceases to amaze me how bad my luck is with google. I either find nothing or way more than I ever wanted.
Chances are there is some place (perhaps multiple places) near you that use plastic pellets. If I remember correctly, there is a relatively large plastic pipe manufacturer just south of the port. Also, I would guess the hopper car lengths to be closer to 65 feet.

Here is a good one too…
Ed
Ed, that last one’s the one I use, when I need one. They keep it pretty well up to date (for me that’s a necessity, because I find unusual new reporting marks about once a month, on average).
Thanks guys. When I have time I’ll see if I can find where they are going.
I have that problem on the opposite end of things. Google and Yahoo both list my website very low, so now I recommend MSN Search, since I’m number one when it comes to pictures of trains. [;)]
