In regards to your question, I did an internet search and came up with Hobby Wholesale and Kites And Other Delights in Edmonton. I’m not sure how far Edmonton is from Calgary, but you might also look for hobby shops in Calgary.

according to mapquest … 183 miles , about 3 hours to drive , would definately be a day trip

thanks for the traim store info. i will definitly make the trip to calgary to check out those stores. what about any train clubs that will allow a parttime membership to there club.

I’m in Calgary, Edmonton is about 3 hours North. In Calgary there is Chinook Hobby West and Trains and Such. Marty

I have to go to Saskatoon on Wednesday, anything worth visiting there?

Hope you’re going in the summer, as it gets pretty nippy there in winter! But seriously, yeah there are train shops and clubs there.

The directory at the back of Model Railroader Magazine shows:
Roundhouse Sales

(780) 430-9072.

There is a club finder function on the Model Railroader Magazine home page. Try this link:

In fact, I just ran it to check and it turned up:
Edmonton Model Railroad Association

A model railroad club building and operating a double-deck, 51’x31’ layout in historic Fort Edmonton Park. New members and visitors welcome.

The World’s Greatest Hobby website also has a club finder function. Try:

Both those sites also have hobby shop finder functions. Try:

(this last link may or may not work well.)

No guarantee on how good the hobby shops are, or the selection they have in your scale, but it’s a source anyway. You can check them out when you get there.

Between these two you should be able

Alberta Hobby Centre - 142St. & Yellowhead Trail

Universal Hobbies - 121ave & 54st.

Hobby Lobby - 7113 Argyll Rd

Roundhouse Sales - 95ave & 87st.

Kites & other delights is in the West Ed Mall but Its a bit more of a toy store than a model train store.

If you go to Calgary I would definetly recommend Trains & Such - 26ave & 4th st NW

I have dealt at Alberta Hobby Centre, Hobby Wholesale (which is all retail) and Roundhouse Sales. Kites and Other Delights has a fair selection of railroad stuff but they are very pricey (due to their location in West Edmonton Mall).

My personal preferences are in the order I listed them above, but that’s just me. I haven’t visited any of the others.

I have also shopped at Trains n Such in Calgary - great store! I currently have an order into them for a Plastruc Oil Refinery…mmmmuuuahhhh!! [:p]

I live 2 hours west of Edmonton.
