[:(!] I just saw the photos of the EJ&E/Amtrak passenger special that ran yesterday on the J from (its seemed) Waukegan to Joliet, IL…very rare passenger mileage. I believe I might have been about two miles from the J main when it came through Eola yard (actually over, since the J track passes over Eola yard on a bridge at the East end). I really would have loved to hear about it and watch it but had no idea at all it was running and did not hear of it on my scanner…did anybody else have advanced notice of the special other than the lucky photogropher who took the pictures and posted them on www.railpictures.net? How do you get advanced notice of such events normally,or can you at all?
I got the schedule for this train passed to me from a friend, but I’m too far away to head that way. It ran yesterday and today, and is just finnishing up it’s run about now. Usually these things either come direct from the railroad, or by word of mouth through a chain or railfans. The special was for the Ronald McDonald House, so it was probably publicized some that way.

I was a little miffed myself… It’s not like they get a run like this every week, but out of 500 people on our EJ&E list, nobody that knew apparently thought to post a notice. And I do know some people knew, because they were out there waiting. I couldn’t have gone myself, since I’m not there… But I’m sure a lot of other people would have liked to have gone. There’s details on my EJ&E site, along with some pics taken by Greg when it was stopped in Joliet. They actually went all the way to Gary.
