[:)]I just happened to watch this movie after a few years and still haven’t forgotten about the infamous train scene towards the end, which featured a nice shot of SD38-2 #661 and a EJ&E caboose.
Now the big question…where on the EJ&E ROW was this filmed? I know there were several scenes in the movie featuring an arched viaduct. The IMDB lists it as the Illinois-Michigan Canal, but i’m not really sure about that. Do any Chicagoans know a lot more about this?[?]
I believe it was somewhere on the Illinois River Line… Someone with the RR told me exactly where once, but now I forget. It was a fairly inaccessible, little known spot I believe. Although by now, maybe it’s not so inaccessible anymore.
Little known fact… The J was also in the running when they were looking to do the scene for “The Fugitive”.
Funny, the movie was mainly filmed in Evanston, I first saw the viaduct in the opening credits (just as a freight led by two more SD38’s goes over it), and when Dennis ran away after the altercation with Mr. Wilson, and runs into Sam and they hide out underneath that viaduct. All in all Dennis must have gone 30 miles![:0] When I first saw the movie I thought the viaduct was just outside of Evanston, not further south![:o)] Also in the opening credits it shows a wide shot of downtown Evanston, and in the extreme left, a train is passing thru town (on the UP Evanston Sub), and I spotted a Central Vermont boxcar among the consist.
