I have permission from Al Willcoxen to show his marvelous work on the interiors of the Walthers El Cap Santa Fe train. The slideshow below illustrates how the interiors of the El Capitan can enhance the Walthers El Cap train. He has created a train that is master piece in HO scale by any standards of modeling in my opinion. I received his permission to show this train on Photobucket and I hope you enjoy seeing the detail that Al has incorporated into this train.
I might add Al had saved his memorabilia over the years from the train and scanned it for the reduction to HO scale and worked together with Ken Johnson on the TrakWorks project. It is a masterpiece of engineering for a kit and I for one really appreciated their effort. The inside of the cars are formed using a slip mold so all of the insides are slightly tapered. No interior walls or parts are totally perpendicular inside the cars and the interior kit had to overcome the manufacturing process that is used to produce the interiors.
His comments are humorous and reflect some of the situations he experienced during his rides on prototype El Cap train when it was in its prime. So set back and enjoy the comments and pictures of this marvelously detailed train.
Using the TrakWorks kits designed for the interiors of the Walthers High Level El Cap cars, Al has created this master piece to a level of a Museum Quality HO scale train.
Disclaimer: This is not my train but it belongs to a friend.
Thanks for the comments of Al’s work. There are no words I know of to say except, these are the most detailed and as close to correct for the color and details that I am aware of.
This is the same response I had when I first started looking at the pictures. The amount of work and time it required to complete this train was extensive.
