That would be neat to see those PCC’s back plying El Paso’s streets but hold the line into Juarez.
Stored at the airport?
In the 80’s, my wife and I stopped in El Paso for a couple of days.
While she was doing her thing, her friends, I drove along perceived routes of the Santa Fe and MOP, and drove by the stored PCC’s, nowhere near the airport.
To whoever stored them at the airport, unlimited gratitude…my guess is that these are 1950’s technology, record it before it’s lost, then make the 21st Century changes.
Please do it now!
Be nice if the PCC’s could once again run across the border, however I figure the new security regulations would make that just about impossible.
I’d love to see those El Paso PCC cars run again. Rode them often while stationed at Fort Bliss in the 1960s. Often got the motorman to let me ride with him back to the car barn as he drove the trolley backwards along that mile or so of single track that extended from the loop that ran through Juarez. There were neat little miniature controls at the back of the cars (these are single-end cars) and the motorman could access the controls by removing a cover above the back seat. Extra pole on front of car provided power for rear moves. Was given grand tours of car barn and outside car storage areas. Hope this really happens.
$97M. What a waste of money. Ride the bus.
Another bus kisser!
Let’s hope there will be sufficient revenue to keep the line open and growing!!!
