Electric trains

By the way i am talking about trains like GG-1 Aclea etc

No middle ground? Well, I’m definitely in the love column!

Lets not forget the pioneer and major leader in electric operations and locomotives was the New Haven. Not the PRR or MR.

In fact the GG1 owes its entire existence to the New Haven and the NH EP-3’s they let the PRR test.

In addition to having the mainline to NY and the NC and Danbury branches electrified in the very early 1900’s, the NH had the first AC/DC catenary/third rail locomotives and the first rectifiers in 1954.

To quote someone else, the PRR may have been the “Standard railroad”, but when it came to electrification, they followed the New Haven’s standards.

HATE THEM! diesel is the way to go–besides what happens if the power goes out? just beacause electric locomotives look so stupid- if they looked more like a diesel… however the “Green Goat” switcher (from the January Model Railroader) is cool

While I am not “into” modeling the electrics, I think they are cool for those applications where these types of locomotives filled a need. Just another aspect of railroading in America and other places.

The Green Goat is not truly an electric locomotive though, if you are saying that you think it is the only good looking electric locomotive. (Your opinion, not mine, I won’t try to change it) But the Green Goat is a hybrid, so it is using a diesel engine as well. But, it can provide a common ground for people that hate electrics and those who love them.[;)]

Myself personally, I love electric locomotives, especially the larger ones, such as the GN W1 Cascade. Big, powerful, and with the intricate pantographs and catenary systems, they are an awesome prototype to model.[8D]

i should have mentioned that i hate them. although i no that they were/are a big part of railroading.

They were an interesting solution to the exhaust problem steam engines created in eastern cities. They are a part of railroading and I enjoy the variation they bring.

I’m quite drawn to the electrics. Maybe it’s just a result of living in an area where they’re quite common, and seeing them a bunch, but I love them. Which is not to say that there isn’t a place in my heart for diesels, either (or a smaller one for steam; sorry, everyone, but that just doesn’t do it for me).

One of my favorites is the GG-1. Green or red, doesn’t matter.

Totally HATE!!! THEM

lol locoman u can relate

There is nothing else but steam. That is all. that is all that will ever be.

GG1s ROCK!!! Not as good as K4s, but, still, they ROCK!!!

Personally, I like steam, BUT if I ever were to build a cantenary (sp) system, it would certainly include these:

I love electrics!

I believe that electrics are kinda like Shays, interurbans and Colorado NG in that until you experience them you just can’t fully understand what there is about them.

I grew up with Pennsy GG-1’s & E-44’s and Virginian’s great EL-2 and “bricks” so it was easy for me to get a full appreciation of their immense power.

The GN W-1 was also an incredibly powerful and beautiful creature too!

I have to admit the boxcabs take a little longer to appreciate compared to the more modern electrics I’ve mentioned but they were impressive in their own way.
