Electrical Pickup on the New Proto Heritage 0-8-0

I was going to break the bank and buy two of these puppies to be the stars on my little switching layout.

I see that they have now have electical pickup in the tender, in addition to the engine. Does this mean that all the wheels have electical pickup? All the wheels on the left side of the engine, and the left side of the tender, are picking up current/signal from that rail? And the same is true for the all the right side wheels and that rail?

If so, these 0-8-0’s with a tender should have absolutely no problem creeping through tight, insulated frog turnouts? Right?

Or do we never use the word “absolutely?” Lol.

Thanks
Greg

Greg,

Yes, from what I’ve read and heard, the retooled Proto 2000 0-8-0s are much improved in the pickup area, as well as the detailing. (As if LIkeLike needed more improvement in that area.) It also comes with a traction tire for pulling more cars. Someday I hope to buy one of these myself.

Greg, make sure you give us a report when you have a chance to run them.

Tom

I do not rightly know, but I would bet, from seeing other tenders in other makes and models that are powered, that there are pickups on both trucks. You can bet on it, too.

Yes, 16 wheel pick up.

Yes

Well, it IS still an eight coupled locomotive. It won’t like #4 turnouts as well as an 0-6-0 would.

I have the LL Proto 0-6-0 for a 9’x2’ switching layout. It’s terrific for knocking one or two cars through tight places and #4s. The 0-8-0 may be more appropriate for long cuts, even as long as the road power would handle.
